The 27th Annual 8-Man All-Star Games will be played on Saturday at Trojan Field in Beloit. 79 of the top 8-Man football players in the State of Kansas will compete in the two games. 10 of those 79 are from the KD Country 94 & Z 96.3 listening area.
The Thunder Ridge Longhorns have two representatives on the 8-Man DII West squad, and they are both well deserving. Dakota Foreman and Dillon Coomes anchored an offensive line the past three seasons that helped Joel Struckhoff to the career record for rushing yards and total touchdowns in Kansas 8-Man history. Struckhoff would tell you as much. Foreman and Coomes also helped lead Thunder Ridge to the 8-Man DII State Championship in the fall, winning over B&B 46-14 in November in Newton.
Not only were the duo strong on the offensive line, but they were hard to stop on the defensive line as well. Foreman had 99 tackles this season, including 60 solo stops and 9 tackles for loss. Coomes had 63 tackles, 38 solo and also added 7 tackles for loss. With this talent it’s easy to see why they made it to Beloit to take part in this week’s festivities.
Coomes is excited about this opportunity to play in the 8-Man All-Star Game, and is also happy that he gets to play one more game with his friend Dakota Foreman before they go their separate ways in the fall.
Coomes will move on to play football at Dodge City, joining his Thunder Ridge teammate Struckhoff. Foreman had offers, but opted not to play football at the next level, so he is relishing the opportunity to play one final competitive football game.
The two representatives from Thunder Ridge will bring a hard-nosed attitude to this weekend’s game, and everyone who knows what Thunder Ridge football was about in 2011 would expect nothing less. Coomes and Foreman will showcase their skills in the 8-Man DII All-Star Game which is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Trojan Field. Fans can hear the game on KD Country 94 and on the web at 8manallstars.com.
