Staff Cuts, Resignations & School Calendar Changes Announced At Special USD 364 Board Meeting

Marysville USD 364 held a special board meeting on Wednesday, February 18th to discuss amendments to the 2014-2015 school calendar. There will be no school for students on March 13th, April 6th, April 20th, May 8th, and May 22nd. The last day of school for students will be May 21st with dismissal at 12:10 p.m. These days will be In-Service/Workdays for teachers and salaried employees, and unpaid furlough days for classified hourly employees. Tentatively, March 13th and April 6th will be considered snow days which teachers would not work.

The board accepted the resignations of Randy Freeman, Director of Special Education at the end of the school year, and Tara Schneider, secondary teacher aide/paraprofessional, effective February 27th.

A reduction in force for classified staff was announced, including the following:

  • Abby Broxterman
  • Luann Kongs
  • Jennifer Horn
  • Merlene Miller
  • Elaine Pfeifer
  • Patricia Seematter

All motions at this special board meeting were approved on a 7-0 vote.

Derek Nester was born and raised in Blue Rapids, and graduated from Valley Heights High School in May of 2000. He attended Cowley College in Arkansas City and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park studying Journalism & Media Communication. After stops at KFRM and KCLY radio in Clay Center, he joined KNDY in 2002 as a board operator and play by play announcer. Derek is now responsible for the digital content of Dierking Communications, Inc. six radio stations. In 2005 Derek joined the staff of KCFX radio in Kansas City as a production coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, which airs on over 70 radio stations across 12 Midwest states and growing.
