Two school districts in North Central Kansas are cutting their semester short due to budget cuts.
Concordia USD 333 and Twin Valley USD 240 that includes Bennington and Tescott have both made the decision.
The Twin Valley School District this week decided to trim nearly eight school days off the school calendar, changing their last day from May 20 to May 8.
This decision was based on the financial plight of the district. The district has few fiscal reserves to endure the present mid year unplanned financial cuts recently signed into law.
The Twin Valley school district says that student athletics and activities will continue past May 8th. The building principals and athletic directors will be communicating with patrons and will use the School Messenger frequently to communicate important updates.
The Concordia USD 333 school calendar was trimmed by six school days.
We’ll follow up with other local school districts to see if shortening the school calendar in May is being considered due to budget cuts.
