Main Street Beatrice Celebrates National Preservation Month

Beatrice, NE May 1, 2015 – Main Street Beatrice Celebrates National Preservation Month.

Citizens in Beatrice, Nebraska will join thousands of individuals across the country to celebrate National Preservation Month this May. “Preservation Opens Doors to Opportunity” is the local theme of the month-long celebration sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Communities from coast to coast are filled with unexplored historic treasures—and May’s the month to celebrate them!

Here in Beatrice Preservation Month 2015 will be observed by Main Street Beatrice through two exciting activities. The first is the Mother’s Day Landmark Tour that will be held on Sunday, May 10 starting at 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Take mom out to lunch at your favorite downtown Beatrice restaurant then enjoy a free tour of “Places Open to New Possibilities” in downtown Beatrice. Tours will begin at the Historic Carnegie Building at 218 N 5th Street.

From there the group will venture out and explore several destinations in Downtown Beatrice as part of a free walking tour. In conjunction with the 2015 theme of “Places Open to New Possibilities” attendees will get to explore some of the newly remodeled or new businesses that are located in historic locations throughout downtown Beatrice.

In 2014 tour boasted nearly 70 attendees as they explored the “houses and homes” that can be found in Downtown Beatrice. The Mother’s Day Landmark tour is co-sponsored by Gage County Historic Preservation, Inc. Don’t miss out on this great community event.

As Historic Preservation is done to protect our heritage for future generations a second activity encourages children to participate during the month of May by drawing “a Building I’m Glad We Have in Beatrice” and returning those pictures to Main Street Beatrice or the Beatrice Public Library.
