Suspect Charged With Attempted First Degree Murder In Sunday Aggieville Incident

MANHATTAN, KAN. – Officers with the Riley County Police Department responded to sounds of gunshots near the 600 block of N. 12th Street on May 3, 2015 at approximately 1:20 AM. One adult male was transported to Via Christi Hospital for non-life threatening injury. Police were immediately able to identify and apprehend a suspect after the deployment of an electronic control device (TASER).

Mark Self Jr., 31, of Manhattan, Kansas was arrested while in the 1100 block of Laramie Street following a short foot pursuit. He was booked in to the Riley County Jail for the offenses of attempted murder in the first degree (X2), criminal discharge of a firearm (occupied building), and criminal discharge of a firearm (un-occupied building). Self was held in lieu of $300,000.00 bond.

Kevin Green, 26, of Manhattan, Kansas, was listed as a victim in this investigation after sustaining a gunshot wound which was not considered life threatening. Green was released from medical care at approximately 5:30 AM on May 3, 2015. A second victim was listed after sustaining minor injury as a result of shrapnel from gunfire. This victim, Jeremy Caudill, 19, of Fort Riley, Kansas did not require medical attention.

Police believe this to be an isolated event stemming from a physical altercation earlier that evening. No additional arrests are anticipated.
