The 30th Annual 8-Man All-Star Games are taking place at Trojan Field in Beloit this Saturday. This week, we will be featuring area athletes leading up to the games which will start with the 8-Man DII game at 10:00 and the DI game follows at 1:30. Fans can listen to the games on the Kansas 8-Man All-Star Game Radio Network with pregame coverage beginning at 9:30 a.m.
The Thunder Ridge Longhorns will be well represented at the 8-Man All-Star Game this year, as RB Trent Rietzke and C Logan Miller were both selected for the DII West squad. Rietzke and Miller both enjoyed a lot of wins in their career at Thunder Ridge. In their four years at Thunder Ridge, the Longhorns had a 37-7 record. However, the past two seasons didn’t end the way Thunder Ridge wanted, losing in the first round of the 8-Man DII playoffs in 2013 and failing to qualify for the playoffs with a 6-3 record in 2014, a season in which Rietzke battled injury much of the way and was limited to playing only offense.
Despite the injury, Rietzke still had his best season as a Longhorn, rushing for 1,518 yards and 32 TD as a senior. He finished his career with over 3,700 rushing yards and 74 rushing TD’s. He was an honorable mention All-State pick at RB the past two seasons, as well as a first team All-District RB. Trent is excited to be a part of the 8-Man All-Star Game and told us what he is most looking forward to.
Logan Miller broke onto the scene as a junior for Thunder Ridge, and blossomed as a senior. The Center helped pave the way for Rietzke’s great season as he anchored the offensive line and was rewarded for his efforts, being named a 1st Team All-State offensive lineman by the Wichita Eagle and also honorable mention by the Topeka Capital-Journal and an easy pick for 1st Team All-District on the line. Miller is looking forward to the opportunity of playing another game as well and playing with his teammate Trent Rietzke one last time.
Tune in to KD Country 94 and the 8-Man All-Star Game Radio Network on Saturday as Trent Rietzke and Logan Miller buckle their chinstraps one last time in high school for the DII All-Star Game. Pregame coverage begins at 9:30 a.m.
