The Blue Rapids Museum, #36 Public Square, will present Jim Elfers, author of The Tour to End All Tours at 2:00 pm Saturday July 11th. When Elfers thought about writing this book about the 1913 World Tour of the New York Giants and Chicago White Sox, he called the B.R. Library first! Why? He thought that if the smallest town to host this World Tour had photos and information about the game on their ball field, he could surely find information in the larger cities. Dr. Don Musil was the repository for photos and stories of the game and the State Bank had a large original advertising poster and Elfers had the start of his book.

The Hometown Teams exhibit at the museum features a recently uncovered photo of Jim Thorpe, the famous Olympic athlete, on the Blue Rapids field during the 1913 game along with tributes to Blue Rapids H.S., Valley Heights H.S. and local athletes.

James Elfers was raised in rural Pennsylvania and the New Jersey seashore. Owning a degree in Geography, he has been employed by his Alma Mater since 1988. A Library Analyst, he spends his work days assigning call numbers to books and movies for a major research library. The author of the Tour To End All Tours, he has also appeared in other book reviews and online. He is the father of two grown sons and enjoys writing and researching.
