A fatality accident south of Sabetha forced a detour of traffic on U.S. Highway 36 for over six hours Thursday.
The fatality victim, Rebecca Lynne Crismas was crossing the highway southbound at W Road, four miles south of Sabetha. She failed to yield at the stop sign, with heavy fog reported at the time, shortly after 8 a.m., and was struck by a westbound semi driven by Wayne Mowery of LaCygne, Kansas.
Three children in the Crismas vehicle, ages 11, 3, and 1 were injured and taken to area hospitals, along with the truck driver. Traffic on U.S. Highway 36 was detoured until shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday.
