In a story we first broke during the noon hour on Monday, Smith Center High School received a communicated bomb threat around 10:30 yesterday morning.
Smith Center Superintendent Ron Meitler said a student found a note at the school claiming there was a bomb, but he did not know specifically where the note was found.
The contents of the note were not released, other than that a viable threat was made. Students were evacuated from the elementary and junior senior high school and were released to parents at noon at the Smith County Courthouse.
A suspect is in custody, but the individual’s name has not yet been released. Unconfirmed reports out of Smith Center claim the suspect is a Smith Center student.
Bomb sniffing dogs were brought to help clear the area and ensure safety. Once the buildings were cleared, they were turned back to local district control from authorities on scene.
