Belleville Kan. – Former House Majority Leader Clay Aurand has filed for the 106th House seat. The seat is currently held by Representative Sharon Schwartz, who is not seeking re-election.
Aurand said, “I am filing for the House of Representatives to help ensure that any new school finance legislation treats rural schools equitably. The state needs to ensure continuation of a quality K-12 education system that prepares our kids for college, career and life. As the former Chair of the House Education Committee and current Republic County School Board member, I have experience tackling the challenges rural districts face on a daily basis. I look forward to once again serving the people of North Central Kansas by making it the best place in the country to live, work, and raise a family.”
Representative Aurand served in the Kansas House for 18 years and is currently a member of the Republic County School Board. He is a lifelong resident of Republic County and a fourth generation family farmer. Clay graduated with a B.S. in Political Science from Kansas State University. He and his wife, Gina, have four children. They reside in Belleville.
