The Beloit Trojans look to have a lot of success at the 3A regional in Lyons this afternoon. Both teams are coming off of NCAA League titles at Belleville last Friday. In the girls ranks, Sydney Johnson has the best throw this season in the discus at 139’9” and Kourtni Hubert has the top heave in the Javelin in 3A at 145’4”. Many other Lady Trojan athletes have marks in the Top 10 of the state going into regionals and head coach Ryan Isbell feels that the girls should be able to have success today.
The Beloit boys are highlighted by their 4x400m Relay team that has the 2nd best time this season in 3A. Also, Jace Adams hopes to become a 4-time state qualifier in the 300m Hurdles. Isbell feels the Boys also have a great opportunity to get many athletes to State.
At 1A in Phillipsburg, the Lakeside girls look to have success as they are coming off of a Northern Plains League Championship last Thursday. Rachel Miller has led the way on the track this season and will look to qualify in the 100m, 200m and 100m Hurdles. Bey Lee Brummet has also had success in throws this year, leading the Lady Knights in the field. Also in Phillipsburg on the girls side, Monica Jirak of Thunder Ridge comes in with the top throw in 1A in the Discus this season. On the boys side, keep an eye out for Junior Cullen Grabast of Osborne, who looks to qualify for State in the 800m Run for the 3rd straight year. Also, the Triple Jump will be a featured event, as 10 of the top 16 jumps in 1A this season have come from athletes at Phillipsburg, including Lakeside’s Austin Stroede who jumped 43’0 ½” last week at league, which is the 2nd best jump this season.
At 1A in Frankfort, the St. John’s Blujays look to send multiple athletes to State on both boys and girls side. In girls action, Gabbie Smith of the Lady Jays has the best throw in 1A in the Javelin this season, and the 4x400m Relay team has the top time in 1A as well. Junior Clara Eilert will try to qualify for State for the 3rd straight year in the 100m Hurdles, an event that she won the state title in her Freshman season. Junior Brenna Eilert also hopes to become a State qualifier for the 3rd straight year in both the 200m and 400m dashes. Also at Frankfort, Rock Hills Junior Sarena Meier hopes to qualify for State in the 3200m Run for the 3rd year in a row. On the boys side, Davis Dubbert of St. John’s has the 2nd best jump in the High Jump in 1A this season, and is ranked 4th in the state in the Javelin. Parker Gates of the Blujays hopes to qualify for State in the 300m Hurdles for the 2nd straight year, as he placed 5th in the state last year and has the #2 time in 1A going into regionals this season.
Finally, in Class 2A at Hill City, Lincoln and Smith Center will compete from our area. On the girls side, Aubry Donley of Lincoln has the best time this season in the 400m Dash at 1:01.00.
