A public meeting to discuss the future of the Hanover Hospital is planned Friday evening, July 8th at 7 p.m. at the Kloppenberg Center.
Hospital board members are considering the option of turning over the facility to the county to operate as a Washington County hospital. A special vote on the question is slated July 19th. Specifics of the ballot question are yet to be defined. Voting yes would allow the board to proceed with a next step in that process, while a no vote would keep the facility operating as is. Patrons in the hospital taxing district will be eligible to vote.
In an open letter published this week in the Washington County News from the board, economic stability of the hospital was noted, along with the fact that administration and primary care doctors are nearing retirement. It is hoped that dissolution of the taxing district, and donating facilities to the county could allow continued operation.
Again, no specifics have been defined, and public input at the meeting Friday will dictate how the board proceeds.
