Mowing Accident In Sherman County Kills KDOT Worker

A Kansas Department of Transportation worker was killed in a mowing accident Thursday in western Kansas.

Darren Way, 39, died when the riding mower he was operating overturned, pinning him beneath it. The accident happened Thursday morning as he was mowing along Interstate 70 in Sherman County.

“We are saddened at the loss of our co-worker and offer our condolences to Darren’s family, friends and co-workers,” said Interim Transportation Secretary Richard Carlson. “They are in our thoughts and prayers as they cope with this tragedy.”

Darren Way was an Equipment Operator working out of KDOT’s Goodland subarea office. He had worked at KDOT since September 2014.
