The Axtell community celebrates 145 years, with the annual Harvest Festival this weekend. A coed softball tournament, with all proceeds to benefit cancer research, kicks off Friday evening, plus a 5K glow run/walk to benefit Axtell Pride. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the city park, and begins around 9 a.m.
Saturday a bicycle fun run starting at 8:30 a.m. will meet at the high school. A parade is slated to begin around 10 a.m., followed by kids’ activities, and discovery exhibits. Train rides and horse and buggy rides will be featured from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The Antique Tractor Pull and kids pedal pull both start at 1 p.m., and Bingo plus a tractor country cruise are planned Saturday afternoon. The firemen will host a chicken/pulled pork barbecue, along with homemade ice cream at the Axtell Legion Saturday evening, and a street dance will feature the Scallywags, a local group 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., then Tim Strathman and the Blacktop Road beginning at 9 p.m. Lawn chairs are encouraged.
The weekend fun wraps up Sunday with pasture golf, to benefit the Axtell Fire Department. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and first tee at 9. Bring your own four-wheeler or side by side. The event will be held 3 miles north of Axtell on 30th Road.
