Jewell County Commissioners – March 13, 2017

The Jewell County Commissioners met March 13, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. with Commissioners, Steve Greene, Mark Fleming and Keith Roe present. Carla J. Waugh, County Clerk was present for the meeting.

David Luke, KCAMP Administrator introduced Maura Chambers, KCAMP Risk Manager. David presented an overview of Board of Director, Staff Members and services provided.  David presented the Commissioners with a dividend check of $5205.00. Maura Chambers reviewed the Risk Avoidance Grants program, tuition reimbursement and the Online University.

Don Jacobs, Sheriff, discussed office operations.

Mark Fleming moved to declare April as Fair Housing Month and to sign the Proclamation. Keith Roe seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

The minutes of the March 6, 2017 County Commissioners meeting were approved with the correction of the word “office” to “officer”.

Joel Elkins, General Superintendent, had culvert bids. Chairman Fleming opened the following bids: D-C Wholesale -$91,601.75; J&J Drainage Products – $98,859.66; and Welborn Sales – $92,550.37. Garry Montre, Welborn Sales says his products are made in Kansas. Mark Fleming moved to accept the low bid of $91,601.75 from D-C Wholesale. Keith Roe seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Paul Dahl discussed road concerns.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:05 a.m.

Now in his third year as News Director at KD-Country 94 and Z-96.3 The Lake, Chad is a jack of not all, but many trades. He spent previous years of his working life in hotel management, event planning, security, the aviation industry, staff writing for a newspaper, and as a small business owner. He began doing play-by-play of high school sports for KDNS and KZDY in 2009 and came to work full time for the stations in July of 2015. He is a single-father of a young daughter and enjoys spending his free time with her. His favorite activities include attending live music and sporting events as well as being a singer/songwriter. A natural conversationalist, he also enjoys a good discussion/debate on a myriad of topics from current events and politics to sports and philosophy. He resides in Beloit with his daughter and continues to write sports and meeting stories for a local newspaper.
