Jewell County Commissioners – January 8, 2018

The Jewell County Commissioners met January 8, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. with Commissioners, Mark Fleming, Steve Greene and Keith Roe present. Carla J. Waugh, County Clerk, was present for the meeting.

The minutes of the January 2, 2018 County Commissioners meeting were approved.
Mary Ann Meier, Health Department, asked several questions on reports that are due.
Mark Fleming moved to accept Earl Varney’s resignation as Buffalo Township Trustee. Steve Greene seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Steve Greene moved to appoint Lane Wilson as Buffalo Township Trustee. Keith Roe seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

The Commissioners received a letter from Lisa Boyles, Jewell County Fair Board Secretary, requesting consideration to fill vacancies on the board. The letter also reviewed grants and projects of the fairgrounds for the past year. Keith Roe moved to appoint Lisa Goodheart, Larry Langer and Lesa Peroutek to the Jewell County Fair Board of Directors for a term of 2018 to 2020. Mark Fleming seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Joel Elkins, General Superintendent, discussed damage to several stop signs on 150 RD and D RD and other roads in the area. Joel has reported the damage to the Sheriff’s Office. Steve Greene moved that the proper officers sign the letters of request for the biennial bridge inspection. Keith Roe seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Steve Greene moved to appoint Keith Roe as Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners for 2018. Mark Fleming seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Mark Fleming moved to appoint Steve Greene as Vice Chairman of the Board of County

Commissioners for 2018. Keith Roe seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Steve Greene moved and Keith Roe seconded that the Jewell County Record be designated as the official County Newspaper. Motion passed unanimously.

Mark Fleming moved and Keith Roe seconded that all banks in Jewell County be designated as official depositories. Motion passed unanimously.

Steve Greene moved and Mark Fleming seconded to reappoint Keith Roe as Jewell County’s Representative for the Juvenile Justice Authority/Community Corrections Advisory Board. Motion passed unanimously.

Mark Fleming moved and Keith Roe seconded to reappoint Steve Greene as Jewell County’s Representative for the North Central Kansas Regional Juvenile Detention Facility. Motion passed unanimously.

Steve Greene moved and Keith Roe seconded to reappoint Mark Fleming as Jewell County’s Representative for the North Central Regional Planning Commission Board. Motion passed unanimously.

Chris Petet, Custodian, discussed issues with the hand towel dispensers.

He spent previous years of his working life in hotel management, event planning, security, the aviation industry, staff writing for a newspaper, and as a small business owner. He began doing play-by-play of high school sports for KDNS and KZDY in 2009 and came to work full time for the stations in July of 2015.
