Valley Center Wins Hiawatha Tournament; Marysville Finishes 4th

The 2018 edition of the Hiawatha Girls Invitational Basketball Tournament finished up with a slew of games on Saturday, with Valley Center taking home the title in their first season in the tournament.

Falls City started the day with a win over Hiawatha 41-19, taking home 7th place. Atchison upset Horton 50-41 to finish in 5th place. St. Mary’s upended Marysville 58-51 for 3rd place, giving the Lady Bulldogs their 3rd loss on the season, and second straight. Finally, Valley Center took Jackson Heights 38-28 for the Championship.

Marysville hosts Riley County on Tuesday, and hosts Abilene on Friday to begin the last leg of the regular season. Those games will be live on KNDY AM 1570/FM 94.1 and our website and mobile app.

Derek Nester was born and raised in Blue Rapids, and graduated from Valley Heights High School in May of 2000. He attended Cowley College in Arkansas City and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park studying Journalism & Media Communication.
