Jewell County Commissioners – February 5, 2018

The Jewell County Commissioners met February 5, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. Commissioners, Keith Roe, Steve Greene and Mark Fleming present. Carla J. Waugh, County Clerk, was present for the meeting.

The minutes of the January 29, 2018 County Commissioners meeting were approved.

Travis Garst, Solid Waste Director, reviewed the monthly activity report for January. Travis said he has training in March.

Mezvah Nobi, FBLA, Zane Colson, FFA, Emma Reinert, FBLA and Matthew Railsback, FFA Advisor, presented the Career & Technology Education Month Proclamation for the County Commissioners approval. Steve Greene moved that the proper officers sign the Career & Technology Education Month Proclamation to designate the month of February 2018 as “Career and Technical Education Month”. Mark Fleming seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Gail Bartley, Noxious Weed Director, reviewed the Annual Noxious Weed Eradication Progress Report of 2017. Steve Greene moved that the proper officer sign the Annual Noxious Weed Eradication Progress Report of 2017, Mark Fleming seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Gail Bartley discussed the Jewell County Weed Management Plan for 2018 with no changes. Mark Fleming moved and Keith Roe seconded the motion to approve the Jewell County Weed Management Plan for 2018. Motion passed unanimously.

Joel Elkins, General Superintendent, discussed road maintenance. The Commissioners discussed road concerns of Dan Reynolds.

Joel Elkins discussed the bids opened at last week’s meeting for the biennial bridge inspection for 300 structures: Benesch – $156.15 per structure for a total of $46,485.00; CFS Engineers – $75.00 per structure for a total of $22,500.00; Campbell & Johnson Engineers, P.A. – $87.75 per structure for a total of $26,325.00 and Kirkham Michael – $85.00 per structure for a total of $25.500.00.

Steve Greene moved to accept the bid from Campbell & Johnson for the biennial bridge inspection $87.75 per structure for a total of $26,325.00. Mark Fleming seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Commissioners reviewed the bid for bridge steel from Husker Steel – $23,256.00. Steve Greene moved to accept the bid from Husker Steel – $23,256.00 for bridge steel. Mark Fleming seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:05 a.m.
